About

That image always sparked a curiosity in me that I couldn’t quite explain. When I was just starting to learn to read, a copy of a children’s magazine called *Tico Tico* fell into my hands, featuring its characters Reco Reco, Bolão, and Azeitona. In that issue, in the magazine’s “do-it-yourself” section, it taught how to make an image projector using a small wooden box measuring 20x15x15 cm. There was a movie theater in the neighborhood that showed films on Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays. The following days, early in the morning, I would wait for the theater’s trash to be taken out so I could collect the film strips they threw away, to project at night in my house onto a white-painted wall. That’s how I began my direct relationship with images; whenever I had the chance, I read about photography and cinema. I never stopped.
