About
Better known as Dom Filó, the carioca Asfilófio de Oliveira Filho is a civil engineer, journalist, cultural producer, documentary filmmaker, postgraduate in marketing from ESPM and an MBA in sports management from FGV. In the 70s, he was one of the mentors and protagonists of the Black Rio Movement. Professional with over 50 years of experience in the areas of culture, sports, marketing and communication, with leadership roles in the public, private and third sector. He introduced street basketball to Rio de Janeiro with the pioneering LUB-Liga Urbana de Basquete. He is responsible for CULTNE - the largest virtual collection of black culture in Latin America -, which brings together more than 3,000 hours of original and unpublished audiovisual content, over more than 40 years of recording and memory of the contemporary Black Movement. He is the general director of the program Cultne na TV, which is shown on TV Alerj, in Rio de Janeiro. In 2019, he spoke at Harvard University during the Conference on Afro-Latin and American Studies. He is an Honorary Citizen of the City of Atlanta / USA and Meritorious for Peace by the Central Committee on Peace – Human Rights Services Solidarity Initiative. In 2021, he was included in the 100 PowerList, which awarded the 100 Most Influential Black Personalities in Lusofonia. In 2022, he was the only Brazilian to be part of the international curatorial board of the Museum of Pan-African Heritage in Ghana, Africa, to be launched in 2023.
