Love and Joy - Documentary, Episode 2

TP 01 - EP 02 - 25 min - 2025

The second episode traces the artist’s life story and his relationship with music, from his early childhood to his arrival in Canada. And that is where the second part of the documentary begins: from adapting to Canada’s climate, language, and culture, Vovô Saramanda explains how the skills of listening and observation he learned through Candomblé were crucial to this process of change. New encounters and experiences in such a different environment led him to found a samba group in Canada, before a brief return to Brazil, where he then created the Afro-jazz band Buscapé. “Composition that has a spiritual, musical, and human context: for me, that’s what music is,” he says. Back in Canada, the group Saramanda emerged from the natural evolution of all these influences. It is here that the “sonic signature” of this artist’s music comes to life.
