The film chronicles Alexandre Garnizé’s journey across the Atlantic Ocean as he pursues his dream of rediscovering his musical and cultural roots through his encounter with his Senegalese mentor, Doudou Ndiaye Rose.
A rhythmic and cultural exchange between Afro-Brazilian music and Senegalese music, as Senegal was the point of forced departure for most of the Africans who were brought to Brazil. Communities in Maré, Rio de Janeiro, and communities in Dakar, Senegal, intersect in the journey of musician-historian Garnizé, creating a setting where ethnicity, music, and youth are the key elements of this grand convergence of social realities.
