The new Afro-Brazilian Orchestra has a unique sound created by musician, composer, and baritone Carlos Negreiros.
Founded by conductor Abigail Moura (1904–1970) in 1942, the musical group released only two albums, the 1968 one of which is considered a classic of Brazilian popular music. Their sound blended, among other rhythms, the opanijé and alujá (specific to Omolú and Xangô, respectively) with the rhythmic patterns found in the rituals of African-based religions.
