The collection “The Three Graces of Brazil” by fashion designer Mônica Sampaio, founder of the Santa Resistência brand, pays tribute to three women who played leading roles in Brazil’s path to independence: the Indigenous woman Catarina Paraguaçu, the Black woman Maria Felipa, and the White woman Maria Quitéria.
At various points in Brazil’s history, they stood alongside the poor, indigenous peoples, farmers, and women to defend the Recôncavo region. The first three looks of the show, in green, embody this triad: the Amazonian crochet dress with a long fringed hem, paired with a crocheted headdress of foliage; the long dress with numerous ruffled bands; and the shirt, also covered in ruffles on the front, worn with boots and a beret.
