The new theater is named in honor of Francisca Xavier Queiroz de Jesus, known as Chica Xavier, who was a renowned and celebrated actress in Brazilian theater, film, and television.
Opened on April 24, 2022, Rio de Janeiro’s first Black theater, the Chica Xavier Theater, is part of “Terreiro Contemporâneo” and is run by “Confraria do Impossível.” Actors, directors, producers, costume designers, dancers, and a whole range of professionals involved in the cultural sector have plenty of reasons to celebrate.
