Originating from the samba circles of Pedra do Sal, the Moça Prosa group is a women’s samba movement that was established in the historic Praça Mauá neighborhood of Rio de Janeiro in 2012.
Produced, conceived, designed, built, and performed by women, Moça Prosa boosts the economy, brings families together, and addresses issues such as racism, diversity, and the anti-asylum movement, while preserving the memories of the women who have contributed—and continue to contribute—to our culture, and encouraging other women to take their place in public spaces by playing and singing samba. We believe in samba and the language of the streets as a way to usher in a new era for Rio’s samba musicians.
