About
A graphic designer, cultural producer, and, as he describes himself, a “working-class samba musician.” A native of Rio de Janeiro and founder of the Awurê cultural project, he has built his career by bringing together samba, visual and audiovisual communication, and the promotion of Black culture.
Awurê was born as a space to celebrate African and Afro-Brazilian roots, strengthening ancestry, Black identity, and African-based religions through art, music, and culture.
Over the years, Pedro has worked in content production and creative direction for major samba circles and cultural projects, such as Jacutá do Samba, Festa da Raça, Balaio Bom, Projeto Áfricas, and the works of artist Nego Álvaro.
He currently heads Casa Savana, a cultural space located in Pequena África, Rio de Janeiro, which has established itself as one of the city’s main hubs for Black culture, music, and cuisine. He is also part of the Cultne Collection, considered Brazil’s largest digital archive of Black culture.
The son of Filó, a historic activist in the Black movement, Pedro has been committed since childhood to promoting Black culture and creating spaces of belonging. “I consider
myself a working-class samba artist. I like to blend the magic of samba with my graphic and audiovisual creations. I value every detail so that each project has its own identity and fosters a sense of belonging in the audience.”
